Edge compute is the next step in the evolution of our network. Next-gen applications such as autonomous cars and augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) will demand massive amounts of near real-time computation. To provide rich content experiences that consumers want and need, we must harness the power of cloud computing resources.
AT&T has been working on defining and implementing a zero-touch, deployable edge platform which can support a multitude of applications in an efficient manor – in tens of thousands of locations across the world.
The AT&T Edge Cloud (AEC) combines many open source technologies such as OpenStack, ONAP, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, DPDK, SR-IOV and more to build a high performance, zero-touch provisioned cloud environment – providing full automation not only on the cloud layer, but also on the VNF layer.
