Fighting DDoS brings to the table challenges which are unique in the software development landscape, on the one hand we require highly programmable, highly sophisticated logic to perform mitigation while avoiding false positives, on the other hand the performance requirements are uncompromising. In this talk I will provide an overview of the DDoS landscape, the DDoS for hires, botnets and the challenges to a mitigation service. I will then continue to a technical review of DDoS mitigation architectures, and then deep dive into writing high performance, packet processing software, covering topics such as lockless programming, knowing your hardware, memory efficiency, DPDK and more .
