DPDK is taking off in the public cloud, helping to answer a key question about the SDN networks that drive public clouds like Microsoft Azure: how do we make a software network scale to an era of 50+ gigabit networks and provide great performance for network applications and NFV in VMs? In this presentation, we will detail Azure Accelerated Networking for Linux with DPDK, using Azure's FPGA-based SmartNICs to accelerate Linux workloads using SR-IOV. They will detail how this has led to huge performance increases for Linux-based NFV appliances using DPDK, giving Azure industry-leading network performance, and show how developers can use the latest DPDK technologies in containerized workloads to build their own cloud-scale NFV applications in Azure at very high packet rates. They will also show how we make DPDK cloud-ready and resilient to maintenance events such as VM migration.
