With increasing network throughput and low latency requirements driven by 5G and the move to the edge, there is an increasing need to optimize vswitch performance and latency. We will show how using FPGA acceleration together with Intel Xeon processors, we can not only optimize the performance but also enable increased VNF density per server and reduced TCO. We will review the DPDK SW architecture and show how today’s VNF and orchestration SW can be seamlessly integrated into this solution including the VNF abstraction and migration.
